A. is a dedicated elementary special education bilingual teacher. In her free time, A. enjoys curling up with a good book under cozy blankets, hunting for treasures at local thrift stores, and experimenting with new and exotic plants in her garden.
K. is an architect, deeply passionate about design and exploring how architecture can enrich people’s lives. He spends his free time restoring his collection of bikes, tackling home improvement and woodworking projects, and wandering through cities. Since the pandemic, he has developed a love of home cooking and enjoys discovering and perfecting delicious dishes from around the world.

Together, we share a love for outdoor adventures, having gone on numerous cycling, snorkeling, and hiking trips across the globe. We are also passionate about visual and performing arts, frequently visiting museums, art galleries, and local theater performances. We value our close friendships and cherish weekends spent surrounded by friends and family.

WHAT LED US TO SURROGACY

IVF has been yet another storm we’ve weathered together. After marrying at 41, we quickly began pursuing IVF, following our doctor’s advice. A. had frozen her eggs at 35 and hoped the process would be smooth sailing. But our first exam revealed an unexpected challenge: her uterus was fused due to an adhesion which required a hysteroscopic surgery followed by the placement of a saline-filled balloon in her uterus.

After two unsuccessful IVF transfers and a second surgery, we knew we needed answers. A biopsy suggested the presence of endometriosis. We opted for a more invasive laparoscopy, which uncovered and removed significant endometriosis, uterine cysts, and tubular cysts. After a lengthy recovery, we tried a third transfer—only for it to fail as well.

At this point we decided it was time to reassess our options. We switched doctors, and our new specialist discovered that A. also had adenomyosis. She was put into medically-induced menopause to suppress the endometriosis and adenomyosis. Simultaneously, we pursued Reproductive Immunology to address immune system issues.

We prepared for another transfer, recognizing that in all prior attempts, A.s’ uterine lining had failed to thicken sufficiently. This time, we took a more aggressive approach: two rounds of PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injections into the uterine lining, along with suppositories and acupuncture, all aimed at improving the lining’s thickness. Unfortunately, the lining was still too thin, and after much deliberation, we agreed to cancel the cycle. Our doctor suggested we explore surrogacy.

A close friend surprised us by offering to carry our baby. After numerous open and thoughtful discussions between us, our friend, and her spouse, we decided to move forward with a surrogacy journey. Sadly, this attempt ended in a failed transfer, and our friend was unable to continue after suffering an unrelated hip injury. We hold deep gratitude for her generosity, perseverance, and kindness throughout the process.

From this experience, we’ve learned a lot about surrogacy: particularly, how important clear, honest communication is for a successful surrogacy relationship. We remain close with our friends and continue to share dinners and memories. We look forward to building an open, mutually respectful relationship with our new gestational carrier as we embark on a new journey.

OUR HOPES AND DREAMS FOR OUR FUTURE CHILD

Our dream is that our child feels deeply the love and care that we have for each other, for our future child, and for our families and friends. We want to nurture their natural curiosity, invite them to explore a world of wonder alongside us, navigate it with morals and ethics, and guide them toward the passions that bring them joy. Furthermore, we hope to share our adventures with them—whether traveling to new places or simply discovering magic in everyday moments.

FAMILY TRADITIONS AND VALUES

We come from different cultural backgrounds, with A. having grown up in Connecticut and K. in India. We hope to instill in our child a deep love and understanding of the best parts of these traditions. A.’s parents are artists, who will nurture creativity in our child through visits to their studios and darkroom and by doing projects such as painting, photograms, and sculpture. K.’s parents are a doctor and a teacher, who will teach our child phrases in the three languages they speak as well as the history and tales of their home. We are fortunate to be part of large extended families, full of aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom we remain closely connected, and we look forward to introducing our child to this warm and vibrant family network. We are also very close to our parents and siblings, and we cherish the time we spend together during holidays. Our greatest wish is for our child to grow up with compassion, always striving to do what is morally right, even when it is difficult, and to approach life with kindness, respect, and care for others.
