OUR STORY

We met online in 2007, and after our first few dates were almost inseparable. Our shared interests and backgrounds made us wonder why our paths hadn’t crossed sooner! Within six months we’d consolidated our households and moved in together.

We married in 2008 and started trying for a family. That didn’t work, and despite several medical interventions and tests, J wasn’t able to carry a pregnancy to term. Knowing we wanted to share our lives with a child (or children), we never gave up on that dream.

OUR INTERESTS:

We both come from semi-rural backgrounds and love being outside. We spend a lot of our free time out hiking, rockhounding, playing with our dogs, working in the garden, and exploring new places. S works for an agricultural credit association and J is the content director for a livestock nutrition company. This ties in closely with the way we were both raised S on an orange grove in Southern California and J on a small farm in Northern New Mexico.

WHAT LED US TO SURROGACY

J has adenomyosis, endometriosis and fibroids. After many attempts and several failed pregnancies, we were advised by our provider that using a surrogate would be our best chance at the family we long for!

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR IN A MATCH

We are hoping to have an open and friendly relationship with our surrogate. One based on mutual respect and open communication. We are pretty relaxed and don’t expect our surrogate to restrict their diet or activities (beyond what is recommended by ASRM and their obstetrician). We would love to know how she’s feeling, what sort of changes she’s experiencing, etc., but also wish to respect her privacy.

FAMILY TRADITIONS AND VALUES

Neither of us come from particularly religious backgrounds, but we do have a few strong family traditions that we’d like to pass on to our child(ren).

For example, to celebrate the beginning of summer, we bake delightful cupcakes and grill the first vegetables from the garden to welcome the best season of all. We then spend the evening outside, enjoying the longest day of the year.

Christmas is a relaxed affair, starting with a big pot of posole on Christmas Eve, then a small gathering of family on Christmas Day for a delicious meal and gift exchange. We also deliver gifts to friends and neighbors on Christmas Day. As kids, J’s mom always put together the BEST stockings, so that will be another thing we’d like to continue.

Kindness and a love for animals is also an integral part of who we are, so that will be emphasized from the beginning.

OUR HOPES AND DREAMS FOR OUR FUTURE CHILD

We hope to create an atmosphere where our child will be be comfortable being their own person with their own interests and personality. Ultimately, we would wish for our child to be happy, well-adjusted and confident. We don’t have any aspirations for them professionally. That, again, is so personal.

We will do whatever we can to support their growth, both emotionally and physically, giving them a variety of experiences that will help them build a solid foundation for a healthy adulthood.

Within our own household, we hope to create a nurturing, and loving environment. If possible, we’d love to have two children, as we both grew up with siblings and feel that is so helpful in navigating childhood. We’re both quite laid-back and don’t get upset easily. We’d consider our home life pretty tame lots of hands-on activities and art, along with interaction with the natural world.
