We met overseas while working for the same organization. We met on James’ first day at work when we sat next to each other on the staff shuttle. We immediately noticed each other, and started dating about six months later. We got <strong>married</strong> in 2014 when we moved back to the U.S. and have been settled in New England for the last few years. We have always wanted to be parents and discussed having kids from the <strong>very beginning</strong> of our relationship. It’s been much harder and taken a lot longer to realize our dreams of parenthood than we thought it would, but the experience has brought us <strong>closer together</strong>.</p> </div> </div>

<p> <strong>OUR INTERESTS:</strong></p><p>We love spending time<strong> outside</strong>. The weather in New England is often very hot and humid in the summer, and cold and icy in the winter, but we look forward to being outside anyway. We live in the city, so often drive a few hours on the weekend to spend time in the <strong>woods</strong> to cross-country ski, bike, or kayak. James is an <strong>excellent cook</strong> and Karen is a<strong> good baker</strong>. We love to <strong>travel</strong>, and James especially loves a trip to a warm place in the winter. James loves to dance and Karen is a <strong>voracious </strong>reader.</p> </div>

<h2>WHAT LED US TO SURROGACY</h2><p>When we first started trying to become parents, we<strong> never dreamed</strong> that we would find ourselves looking for a surrogate. We first started fertility treatment in 2019 and have done an IUI, numerous egg retrievals, and four embryo transfers. Karen had an ovary removed in college due to a large cyst, so we thought that getting enough healthy eggs might be a challenge (and it was!), but we weren’t prepared for transfers that wouldn’t implant. It took a lot of investigating and time to get answers on why this was so hard, but now we’re at a place where surrogacy feels like such a gift. We know that not everyone is able to pursue this path and we’re so excited to go down it with oursurrogate.</p> </div>

<h2>FAMILY TRADITIONS AND VALUES</h2><p>Karen grew up with Christmas mornings at home with a big tree, some presents, and family coming over for a huge dinner. Since getting married, we’ve done this some years, but we have also used the holidays as an opportunity to travel to a warmer place. We look forward to sharing both kinds of Christmases with our child and giving them lots of happy memories.</p><p>We hope to pass along the values of honesty, compassion, a good work ethic, and looking out for others. Community is important to us and our child will be part of a loving community.</p> </div>

<h2>WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN A MATCH</h2><p>Our surrogate will be such an <strong>important person</strong> to our family. We look forward to having open and honest communication with her during the pregnancy. We’re open to as much as she’s willing to share about the day to day of the pregnancy and appointments, while also respecting that she has her own family. We hope to attend as many appointments as possible if distance allows and be in the delivery room, if she is willing. We hope to <strong>stay in touch</strong> after the birth– she is giving us such a gift– and also hope our child is able to meet her if they have questions or want to know her.</p> </div>
